Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then located numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say early analysis show the substance was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.
A senior official commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
