People have assembled throughout the country to mark two years since the Hamas-conducted offensive on 7 October 2023, as talks proceeded in Egypt over an end to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The attack resulted in in excess of 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured away to Gaza as captives. It was the single deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Second World War.

Israel reacted by initiating a armed campaign in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, as reported by the area's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are seen as accurate by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"The aggressive adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not defeated us," Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on that day.

He also pledged to "realize all the goals of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas administration and the guarantee that Gaza will never again pose a danger to Israel".

Memorial Events Across Israel

The national leadership delayed formal commemorations until 16 October - after the conclusion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but ceremonies still occurred across the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the relatives of Israelis killed in the Hamas attack was conducted in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was broadcast throughout Israeli TV networks.

Some time earlier, a silent tribute was observed throughout the country.

Negotiation Meetings in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas representatives gathered in the Egyptian tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of indirect talks to discuss the terms of the proposal.

A senior representative involved in the talks said that an late session of negotiations started at evening in Egypt.

The source explained the day's discussions finished without significant progress, due to disagreements over the suggested Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over assurances Hamas wants to make certain Israel does not recommence fighting after the opening period of the arrangement.

He commented that the negotiations are "challenging and have yet to produce any significant progress," but pointed out that mediators are striving to close the disparities between the two sides.

Key Points in Talks

  • A permanent halt to fighting
  • The swap of the captives still detained by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Measures for humanitarian aid deliveries
  • Future management of the area

Public Sentiment

In the city's Hostages Square earlier, young Hagar - whose family member endured the assault on the outdoor event, where 378 people were murdered and numerous more were captured by Hamas gunmen - told: "No location seems like home any longer and until every captive return not a single person will have peace of mind."

"After we see all home returned, we can feel relief again. Then we can commence heal," she added.

Outside the leader's home in Jerusalem, people assembled to show their solidarity for the families of the hostages. Israel reports nearly fifty stay in detention in Gaza, 20 of whom are believed to be surviving.

Protester one woman stated: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement necessary for the abducted to be released. But we truly desire assurances that we will be protected."

Research now consistently show that around 70% of Israelis want the war to finish in return for the release of the captives.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the location of the music event, mourners came together to remember the victims.

From that location, the boom of Israeli air strikes and artillery could be heard just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where witnesses said the severe Israeli bombardment carried on.

In Gaza City, attacks were reported in the dawn of Tuesday in the west side neighborhood, area and zone districts and in the east side district of the community, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"Once the night comes, the dread arrives with it," displaced Gaza City resident a local woman, whose young son was lost his life by an Israeli air strike previously, described.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the air strikes. All the night we are sleeping together, embracing, particularly my smallest child who puts his head on me throughout the night."

"Every second we monitor the reports to see the situation. And I'm afraid that this halt will not be achieved and that the conflict will come back to us."

Humanitarian Situation

The medical facility in the urban area reported it had taken in the bodies of several people by the midday, including several killed in an Israeli bombing in the southern district.

Nasser hospital in the southern urban center of that area said another two victims had been delivered. A person was died by Israeli soldiers while seeking aid to the south, health workers stated.

The region's health ministry announced a significant number of the {territ
