A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the top of the UK charts. The campaign hopes to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also spotlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.

A Chance for Unity and an "Chart Upset"

Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an surprise number one.

“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he said. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”

Resilient Spirit of Self-Determination

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's powerful central theme.

“It has a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “The essence is that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”

Recording Origins and Star-Studded Lineup

The song was recorded following a solidarity show held in late summer. Originally intended to be performed and recorded live, the piece was cut from the show due to the event running long.

The diverse array of artists featured on Lullaby includes a selection of prominent voices from the industry. All participated in the earlier concert, which reportedly raised a considerable total for charitable causes.

Creation and Launch

Lullaby was crafted by a team of producers and composers. The track showcases a mix of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.

The organizers behind the initiative have emphasized that their objective is to collect the highest amount for a specific fund. These donations will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.

“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a spokesperson commented. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to the people of Gaza.”

The context in the area was noted for its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of property reportedly in ruins or severely impacted.

“Given that reality, a couple of million won't make a massive dent. But I think what truly matters is first of all raising awareness for this issue and showing there’s another side to the story.”

The track is scheduled for release this Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
