‘We Will Miss Him Terribly’: The Actress Meg Ryan Publishes Heartfelt Homage to Rob Reiner

The actress Meg Ryan has shared a moving homage to the late director Rob Reiner, who was her director in the iconic romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.

A Tragic Discovery

Reiner was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their home in Los Angeles over the weekend.

“Oh how we will miss this man…” Ryan wrote on Instagram, alongside a picture of them together. “Thank you, Rob and Michelle [sic], for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.”

Charges Filed

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, faces two counts of first-degree murder and was in court today. He’s being incarcerated with no bail set. Reports indicate that Reiner’s daughter Romy found her father’s body.

“I have to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that some good may come, some awareness raised,” Ryan added. “Perhaps they would desire a legacy of hope and humanity, leading us toward empathy and tranquility.”

A Statement from Siblings

Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy issued words today. “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. Beyond being our mom and dad, they were our dearest friends.”

Hollywood Tributes Pour In

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to Reiner through a message shared yesterday along with names including Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“His skill for comedy was unmatched, his ear for dialogue perfect, and his dramatic precision was sheer elegance,” the statement said. “He adored his actors. He elevated his writers. His finest trait was granting creative liberty. He valued input and made you part of the team. They always felt they were working as a team. To be in his hands as a film-maker was a privilege but that is only part of his legacy.”

An Enduring Filmography

When Harry Met Sally was a critical and commercial success in 1989, earning over $93 million globally and securing Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner met Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were connected through Barry Sonnenfeld, a director and friend.

Reiner’s notable filmography featured classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were together in marriage for 36 years.
